Abstract

This article examines contemporary spirituality in Indonesia, focusing on mystical practices, kebatinan, and the pursuit of meaning in a post-digital context. Challenging conventional distinctions between spirituality and theology, the study emphasizes the significance of local spiritual heritage—including Javanese kebatinan—as a source of resistance against forces that undermine human solidarity and life. Integrating Reformed theological reflection, New Testament spiritual experience, and the critique of virtual reality phenomena, the article demonstrates that mature spirituality entails active engagement with the real world, realization of God’s sovereignty, and the manifestation of justice and ecological restoration. The findings underscore that mystical practices and kebatinan possess not only historical value but also contemporary ethical and spiritual relevance in Indonesia, promoting a dynamic balance between inner experience and social responsibility.
